Service & Compliance
GB Recruitment are committed to safeguarding and will not compromise on the safety of our children. You can be assured that all safer recruitment policies are adhered to 100 per cent.
The recruitment of teaching staff requires specialist knowledge and expertise. It is our priority to ensure that the necessary checks on all temporary workers are carried out before any applicant is accepted on to our register. We are one of the first teacher supply agencies to be awarded the new REC Audited Education Status which was initiated in 2014. Prior to this we held the prestigious DfE Quality Mark since 2002. We are also a registered body for the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) allowing us to process checks on teaching staff directly ourselves. GB Recruitment is a member of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), and we ensure that all temporary workers meet the requirements of their stringent code of practice. We adhere to the regulation and guidance issued by the DfE and Home Office which is pertinent to the screening and supply of teaching staff.
Identity Check: Personal identification of each applicant is thoroughly checked. Only official documents such as driving licence or passport satisfy our requirements. Proof of residence is also required in the form of a recent utility bill.
Reference Checks: Full and detailed references are taken up on every applicant. Current or most recent employers are always approached. Unexplained gaps in employment history are investigated. Employers are also asked to divulge any disciplinary or Child Protection issues.
Qualification Check: Academic qualifications are verified against guidance issued by the DfE and other training agencies. Overseas applicants are required to have their qualifications verified by NARIC.
Disclosure and Barring Service: If required, DBS checks on all applicants will have been completed through our DBS Department prior to commencement of employment. Every applicant will be required to disclose any caution, conviction, bind-over or pending prosecution, in-line with the new filtering legislation. All staff are advised to join the new Update Service in order that their DBS status can be checked in-line with our termly policy.
(ISA) Children's Barred List (List 99) Check: We have direct access to the formerly known List '99 and all applicants are checked prior to engagement. This will also be monitored during the termly update service checks as this forms part of the disclosure certificate. This is a statutory requirement.
National College for Teaching and Leadership: National College for Teaching and Leadership: Following the registration process, all teachers are checked against this register and subsequently every year or following a three month break of service as we have direct access to this listing. We also complete a check against the sanctions lists along with support assistants & cover supervisors.
Barring by Association: All staff will complete the relevant documentation during the registration process.
Further Checks on People Living or Working Outside the UK: Where possible, a relevant overseas police check will be viewed or we will take whatever steps are practical to comply with requirements to obtain confirmation of conviction information from the country in question. This could mean obtaining a statement of good conduct from the candidate's most recent employer in that country. They will be asked to confirm, that to the best of their knowledge, the candidate has no criminal convictions and they know of no reason why they are not safe to work with children. If necessary, further references will also be sought.
Right to Work in the UK: This will be established during the interview process by checking all relevant documentation.
Professional Interview: All teaching staff experience in-depth vetting procedures during their interview, and are issued with induction materials to assist them when on supply in schools and day care centres.
Health Check: Applicants meet the DfE requirements of having the physical and mental capacity to teach.
Confidentiality: GB Recruitment ensures that confidentiality is always our utmost concern; we are also Data Protection registered.
Child Protection Training: GB Recruitment work alongside Stoke-on-Trent safeguarding children board with the organisation and funding of Child Protection Level one training. We ensure that all of our staff attend this safeguarding event every three years along with our office-based team. We also offer PREVENT & Behaviour Management training as part of our CPD programme.
